SEPTA PROPOSED SERVICE REDUCTIONS
This is a revised listing - in layman's terms - of the major changes SEPTA is proposing for the next fiscal year.
FARE INCREASES
At the present time, SEPTA is delaying the implementation of its fare increase proposal, pending the outcome of the passage of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Fiscal Year 2004 budget. The fare issue may be revisited no later than September.
SERVICE REDUCTIONS
REGIONAL RAIL
STATIONS CLOSED:
- Lamokin/R2 Wilmington; IMPACT: Minimial; low usage
- Angora/R3 Elwyn; IMPACT: Minimial; low usage (Deferred for six months)
- Wissinoming/R7 Trenton; IMPACT: Minimial; low usage
PEAK TRAIN CONSOLIDATION:
- R5 Thorndale, R6 Norristown, and R8 Fox Chase: peak train consolidations resulting in elimination of three crew runs; headway adjustments from every 20 minutes to every 30 minutes; IMPACT: Minimal; longer wait times
SERVICE FREQUENCY REDUCTIONS:
- R1 Airport: Cutback midday service from Glenside station to Roberts Yard (Temple University); IMPACT: None
- R6 Cynwyd: Operate independent service between Suburban Station and Cynwyd with one-car trains; IMPACT: Passnegers to Market East must transfer to 2nd train
- R8 Chestnut Hill West: Reduce weekday mid-day frequency from 30 minutes to 60 minutes; IMPACT: Longer wait times
- R8 Fox Chase and Chestnut Hill West Sunday service to be reduced from 60 minutes to 90 minutes; IMPACT: Longer Wait Times; Good Transit Alternatives
CITY TRANSIT DIVISION
ROUTE CONSOLIDATION:
- Routes 63 and 64: Consolidate into new Route 64, operating between Pier 70 and Parkside Loop via 46 St and Washington Av with a slight diversion to the Ellsworth-Federal subway station; IMPACT: Better frequency, but increased walk for some
SERVICE REDUCTIONS:
- ROUTE C: Slightly reduced service frequency and operate West Oak Lane (Ogontz) division with articulated buses; IMPACT: Minimal; slightly longer two-minute wait times for some
- ROUTE 8: Discontinue mid-day service between 9:00am and 2:30pm; IMPACT: Low ridership; longer travel times using alternatives
- ROUTES 11, 33, 48: Reduce weekday peak service frequencies; IMPACT: Minimal; slightly longer wait times
- MARKET-FRANKFORD and BROAD STREET LINES: Reduce weekday off-peak service frequencies; IMPACT: Minimal; slightly longer wait times for express trains
OTHER CHANGES:
- ROUTES 29, 59, 66, 75, 79: Convert trackless trolley routes 29, 59, 66, 75, and 79 to bus operation and close trackless facilities at Frankford and Southern Depots; IMPACT: None
- ROUTES 24 and 28: Operate a special Christmas Day schedule; IMPACT: Minimal; low ridership
- ALL CITY TRANSIT DIVISION SERVICES: Operate with a #2 schedule on Veterans and Columbus days; IMPACT: Minimal
- ALLEGHENY AND FRANKFORD DEPOTS: Close Allegheny and Frankford Depots on Saturdays and Sundays and operate service out of Midvale and Comly Depots; IMPACT: None
SUBURBAN TRANSIT DIVISION/RED ARROW
SERVICE REDUCTIONS:
- ROUTES 101 and 102: Decrease mid-day service frequencies from 20 to 30 minutes between 8:30am until 1:00pm; IMPACT: Minimal; longer wait
- ROUTE 112: Discontinue low ridership weekday express trips and all Sunday service (Sunday service FTA funded); IMPACT: Minimal; very low ridership
- ROUTE 113: Discontinue all-night "Owl" service between 12:00am and 5:00am (Operating deficit currently funded by FTA Job Access Grant); IMPACT: Very low ridership but affected riders have no alternatives
- ROUTE 115: Discontinue all evening service after 6:30pm; IMPACT: Minimal; very low ridership
- ROUTE 120: Reduce number of "through" trips between 69 Street Terminal and Cheyney and operate more connecting shuttle trips with Route 104 at Newtown Square; IMPACT: None, except for inconvenince of transfer for some
SUBURBAN TRANSIT DIVISION/FRONTIER
SERVICE REDUCTIONS:
- ROUTE 95: Decrease weekday peak hour service frequencies betwen Plymouth Meeting Mall and Penn Square from 30 to 60 minutes; IMPACT: Minimal; low ridership; longer wait
- ROUTE 128: Decrease mid-day service frequencies (weekdays and Saturdays) from 60 to 90 minutes; IMPACT: Minimal; very low ridership
- ROUTE 206: Discontinue all Saturday service (Operating deficit currently funded by FTA Job Access Grant); IMPACT: Minimal; very low ridership
- ROUTE 201: Weekday morning peak hour trips operating every 30 minutes replacing two-bus per connecting train operation; IMPACT: None
