AN EMPTY CHAIR

God walked with me to school today.

He held my hand along the way.

One set of tracks in the snow.

But he was there. He told me so.

The classroom was warm when he was there.

He sat with us through morning prayer.

He stayed with us throughout the day.

Keeping the school from harmful ways.

Now in the classroom there is an empty chair.

God no longer is sitting there.

There are drugs and crime in the school,

And no respect for the Golden Rule.

In God we trust is what they say.

So bring God back and let him stay.

Hang his commandments on the wall,

And a nation under God will never fall.
