Last night was our ballet studio's performance of Alice in Wonderland. We were really worried that the whole thing wasn't quite together at rehearsal, but it went fine on the night. Partway through my solo (I played the owl) I completely forgot what happened next (it was three tourjetes (however you spell that)), and I started making things up until the last turn, which I knew. Apparently, nobody even noticed. I would like to see the video, though, and see if you can tell by my expression when I became totally lost. It's a pity I forgot the tourjetes, because I'm really good at them and they look impressive. Oh well.
Everybody made their own costumes. These are three sisters in my class. From left: Anya as the catepillar, Joyanna as the Queen of Hearts, and Greta as the March Hare. My own costume! Mom sewed the wings and tail, and I painted the whole thing (and my face) myself. Heather's friend Becca did my hair. Front view... ...And back view. The Knave and the Tarts. Aren't they adorable? The tart second from the right is Ashley, whose mom works with my mom. Phillip (the Knave) is a fantastic actor. I went up to him and did this big courtly bow and said "Hail, Sir Phillip!" and instead of giving me a funny look and kind of inching away, he bowed right back! I love that kid. Tori, a little girl I know, who gave me three red roses! She's such a cutie. She played a flamingo. And yes, the big characters actually picked up the flamingos and used them as croquet mallets to hit the hedgehog through a series of wickets formed by the cards. It was very cool. Allie as Alice and Marissa as the White Rabbit. She had an awful time getting that makeup off. Three of the flowers: a daisy, a tigerlily, and a rose. The mothers of each class were in charge of the costumes for that group, and they all did a fantastic job! Sylvia as a very creepy Jabberwock! Jill as the Cheshire Cat. The unitard is actually purple; it seems to have come up blue in the photo. The White Chess Queen (Eileen) doing the Red Chess Queen's (Emily's) makeup. They're both exceedingly tall, so they looked fantastic as the queens. There's another photo of them that I like the composition of better, but it's really dark. Red Castle and two Red Pawns The little Alices. Aren't they adorable? They did a great job. Laurel's (my dance teacher's) brother Bud, who played Humpty Dumpty. Two of her other brothers played Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, but I don't have a non-blurry photo of them, unfortunately. They were all a riot. And finally, the roses my parents bought me!
