Well, Saturday (9/18/04) was an interesting day. Friday night we got the leftovers from Hurricane Ivan (Ivan the Terrible). My family took a drive Saturday morning to see the flooding. There was a place where the asphalt had bubbled up (bubbles from five inches to a foot and a half in diameter) and if you stood on them, you'd either have water fountaining out or they would slowly begin to sink. There was a sinkhole someone heard about on the scanner--"If you can't tell which one it is, it's the one with an earth-mover in it". Oops.
Starting the drive out to see the flooding The Conodoguinit came right up over the bridge, which has to be at least 6 feet above it on a normal day. Look how strong the current is These people have a lake in their back yard Look at the idiot, everybody! You see the yellow sign in the distance? That is the entrance to the covered bridge. Where that sign is, in fact, well behind that sign, is where that branch of the creek is supposed to stop. There is also supposed to be a road leading to said sign. Note tops of small pine trees sticking up out of the water. And this is supposed to be a creek-side garden. Clouds That afternoon
