- WrestleMania IV featured a 14-man tournament for the vacant World Wrestling Federation Championship – one of only two such championship tournaments in Federation history. The other took place over 10 years later, at the 1998 Survivor Series.
- WrestleMania IV featured the first time that the Federation Championship changed hands at WrestleMania, when Randy Savage was crowned WWF Champion.
- The WWF Championship was declared vacant in the days leading up to WrestleMania IV – the first time the title had ever been vacant since Buddy Rogers became the first WWWF Champion in 1962.
