(this is a repeat of my last message - with better punctuation!)
First, let me introduce myself. My name is Ed Beck. I served at the Naha ADCC from March of 1957 thru September of 1958. I was on Baker Crew. I only spent 4 years in the Air Force, getting discharged in August of 1960. After that, I got lost for many years toiling at the never pleasant job as a civilian.
In the past year, being retired and broke, I have tried diligently to resurrect the pleasant past (ie., the years I was in the AF). Through a couple of friends, I came into contact with the 623rd web site; and, as they say, the rest is history.
I read with great interest the forum comments, and with even greater interest, the anecdotes and tales sections for each squadron or site. As I see it, these two arenas offer us the opportunity to express two things - our current needs and thoughts through the forum section; and our old "war" stories through the anecdote and tales section.
And, how better to keep the history of the radar squadrons on Okinawa alive than by sharing our memories with our friends??? So, I contacted our webmaster, Russ Smith, asking him how I could enter some of my own "war" stories in this section.
Well, guess what!!! RUSS HAS ALLOWED ME TO NOT ONLY ENTER MY STORIES, BUT TO ALSO PASS THE OPPORTUNITY ALONG TO OTHER EX-OKINAWAN FOLKS WHO HAVE SERVED AT ANY OF THE RADAR SITES TO SHARE YOUR MEMORIES.
So, I'm gonna try it. Initially, I am only set up to do the ADCC --- until we see how it goes. If all goes well, and if I can handle the traffic, I will edit and set up these tales for all sites.
I need your help to do this. I NEED YOUR STORIES!!! How do you get these stories to me? Let's try the magic of the internet. You can send your stories to me at "beckne@aol.com". You can either embody your story right in the body of the e-mail; or you can attach a word document with the information. I will confirm receipt of the message; and will notify you when I have it entered in the appropriate section. But, please, include in your SUBJECT line that you are sending a message to be posted to the 623rd. I get a lot of e-mail (and a lot of junk). All too often, if I do not recognize the sender or the subject, I delete the mail without opening. And, I sure do not want to do that with yours.
That's it!!!! I need your help; and, in exchange, I will make the 623rd web site more interesting for all (Oh, by the way, in the near future, we will try scanning and posting photographs).
