HUMAN OSTEOLOGY PILOT PROJECT

Tiffiny Tung, a graduate student at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill conducted a pilot project on the human osteology of the ancient peoples of Arequipa. She worked on several collections at the National Cultural Institute (INC) in Arequipa including:

• A looted collection from the Siguas Valley: She analysed six human crania and identified a trophy head in this collection of donated material.
• Bundled burials from two Chiribaya sites in the Tambo Valley (El Frisco and La Curva)
• A collection of human skeletal remains from the site of La Real in the Majes Valley.
