Topic Eight- Four
Week Program of Resources and Strategies for ESL
Students.
Constructed by Vanessa Sims and Brett Perkins
The following four week program has been designed
as an introduction to expand on the language devices
of two ESL students in year two or three (two students with English as their Second Language). This program can also be used for small groups, depending on the number of computers accessible to students. In this program, we have referred to only two students.
The program is divided into weekly, one
and a half hour sessions conducted on
Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week.
The activities included in this website seek to improve the children's
oral proficiency, number and colour recognition,
listening and comprehension skills and knowledge of
sequencing and description.
This website has been arranged so that each weekly
outline provides a brief description of the activities
conducted in each session and includes links to all
internet based activities that will be used in that
week. We chose to spread the internet based
activities evenly over the four weeks so that the
skills required to operate the computer does not
take precedence over the acquisition of oral and
literacy skills that these activities strive to enhance.

The activities and suggestions that we have presented
in this program can easily cater for children
of any learning stage. The activities can be used
for larger groups of students also.
We believe that this program of four weeks activities,
is only a starting point for a child's English
education. These activities act as a spring board for
further development of the child's oracy and literacy
skills.
