The first book of the Harry Potter series, “Harry Potter and the philospher’s Stone” took five years to write. Joanne use to write on restaurant table napkins or paper bags if there was no paper available when she had a new idea.

Joanne states that she first conceived Harry potter on a train trip. She states that he was so complete and real, it was like she was “meeting him for the first time”.

The house names at Hogwarts were first conceived on at aeroplane and Joanne wrote them on the airsick bag in the plane.

Joanne’s books are published in almost thirty different languages.

The names of many of her character come from myths and folk stories.
