Corrosion of Conformity | Review and Rating
Deliverance
| This is the only COC album that I have and it rarely gets played these days. still it does have some
great catchy songs on it. I don't know if you would class this as stoner rock or what but it
sounds a bit more metal than stoner bands. There are some slow weed smoking songs on here but I prefer the rockier groovier songs.
This is a good album. | Rating - 7 Cairo |
| Conflicts and Dreams
| Cairo are a prog rock band from America that I know very little about. There sound is not heavy at all
and the guitar is not the main instrument here. That honour goes to the keyboards which is the main reason why I bought this album.
They sound very good here and take center stage for long periods in songs. The songs themselves are long to very long and feature many
instrumental sections which would tend to bore most people. The vocals are decent but fairly standard for this type of music. The lyrics are well
written and blend in well to the music. There are fairly catchy moments
and songs do feature choruses surprisingly enough however long you have to wait for them to arrive! This is quite an enjoyable listen every now and then. | Rating - 7 Candlemass |
| A tale of creation
| In my opinion Candlemass is dominated by the voice of Messiah Marcolin.
This man has agreat voice that is very suitable for the kind of Doom metal that is played by Candlemass. The riffs are slow and heavy, however they can be quite melodic
at times whilst hitting a groove. what I like most about this as I said before are the vocals. They really hypnotize you
leaving you humming along.good stuff! | Rating - 7 As it is, as it was - Best of
| This is a best of Candlemass compilation that features 22 songs some of which are live tracks.
There are a number of vocalists on display all of which are good but the best is of course Messiah Marcolin. You get many of Candlemass's best songs on thsi CD
and is a good way of getting to know a band if you haven't heard them before. | Rating - 8 Cannibal Corpse |
| Gallery of Suicide
| I was not a fan of Cannibal Corpse before this album came out only certain songs like Hammer smashed face, however
this album was a turning point in their career into writing better songs and having better production. There are 14 songs on this Cd some of which certainly are filler
material. A good half of them are what I would class very good quality technical death metal. Obviously the lyrics are about gore and death
and leave no room for the imagination but it doesn't matter as this is Cannibal Corpse not Cliff Richard! | Rating - 8 Bloodthirst
| This is the latest album from these death metal goresters and it features everything you would expect
from them. Speed, brutality, technicality and gore lyrics are what you expect and this is what you get delivered.
The sound on this CD is great as well and makes the CD much more listenable. There are some very catchy rhythms on display
and death metal fans will lap this up. There is nothing massively new here but it is another chapter in Cannibal Corpse's career in aural butchery!
| Rating - 9 Carcass |
| Wake up and smell the carcass
| This can be seen as a compilation album for these death metal pioneers.
You get a look at many different styles that Carcass has played from early brutal beginnings to the melodic
thrash/rock that they adopted towards the end of their career. This CD is perhaps only useful to completists and being a
big fan of the band, I count myself as one of them. I especially like the latter day stuff unlike most of
their fans who moan about the band going soft.
| Rating - 7 Swansong
| This is the last Carcass album before they split up. Many fans were
dissapointed with this album but I wasn't one of them. I think this is agreat heavy metal album.
Full of catchy songs and the great riff work of Bill Steer. The solos are also great and filled with melody. Obviously
many of their fans were not open to this new found sense of melody, but thats their loss. I think this is a great rocking album!
| Rating - 8 Heartwork
| In my opinion this is the best Carcass album by far. The production is fantastic with everything
being crisp and well produced. The songs are full of heavy riffs that are both melodic and can be brutal at times. The songs are interspersed with
solos that recall great guitar players of the 80s. There are some great big hulking riffs that really get my head banging on this album.
This is the best mix of catchiness and heaviness. The lyrics have also moved away from the medical dictionary based stuff of previous albums.
| Rating - 10 Necroticism - Descanting the insalubrious
| This is also a great album from Carcass and is perhaps their most technical work. There are so many different changes in the songs
whilst retaining the catchy riffs that are their trademark. The lyrics here are absolutely crazy and you need a degree in biology
to understand any of them. There are some great songs here that get heads banging, however one or two of the songs can tend to be a bit
overlong. This is what many fans of the band call their best album, however I feel that Heartwork is slightly better for me. But that's just my opinion!
| Rating - 9 Cathedral |
| Supernatural Birth Machine
| This is a decent effort from Cathedral and being a fan of the band I can say that I enjoy
this disk. It has all the typical Cathedral trademarks as in big heavy groovy melodic riffs. You also get the manic lyrics which are always a
wonder for me as to where Lee Dorrian get's his brain from! There's not really a lot wrong with this album although one or two songs are tinged with
filler status. Overall I would rate this album reasonably highly but not definitely Cathedral's best album.
| Rating - 7 The Carnival Bizarre
| This is a great album from Cathedral and the title is very apt. There are some very bizarre things on this album
and this is just what you come to expect from this band. The riffs are as great and massive as you like, very enjoyable in my opinion.
The songs are very catchy and hummable after a few listens. I don't listen to this album a lot really but I know that if I do put it
on, I will be in for a great rocking time!
| Rating - 8 The Ethereal Mirror
| This is a very good album from Cathedral and is perhaps more based around
the doom metal structure rather than the groovy stoner rock/doom of later albums. the song Midnight Mountain is my favourite
of the bunch. It is filled with groovy riffs and psychedelic lyrics that get the blood pumping.
The other songs are all based around the doom structure of slow heavy riffs with some faster tempo changes. One or two of the songs tend to bore me a
little and are perhaps for the doom purists. I just love the rocking songs that have massive riffs to enjoy!
| Rating - 8 Caravan Beyond Redemption
| This is the latest album from Cathedral and sees them move in the trendy stoner rock/doom direction. It has to be said
that this is the best sounding Cathedral album. The guitars are heavy as lead. One or two of the songs as with most Cathedral albums are not really
to my taste as seems to be the case with most Cathedral albums. However the good songs really rock hard
and are fully of heavy riffs. The vocal performance of Lee Dorrian is the best that it has ever been. Even so he is not
going to win any awards for his singing abilities, however this doesn't really take away from Cathedral.
They rock!

| The 7th of Never
| Power metal with fairly powerful female vocals! quite good!
Of course David Chastain is a great player so the quality level is high.

| High quality progressive power metal CD. Very good memorable songs
with asuperb vocalist in Roy S. Khan. The playing is top notch and the production is heavy
with nice keyboard touches for a bit of atmosphere. There is something here for both prog and
power metal fans to enjoy.

| The fragile art of existence
| Chuck is God! All metallers know this! If they don't then they bloody
well should! This album is not Power metal as many people say. This is pure technical metal
with some thrashing moments. This is not happy stuff. There is pure mastery of the guitar
on this record. My favourite song is Expect the unexpected. All the songs are great. Its hard
to find much fault in this but I think I will take a mark off coz the production could
have been a bit better. Still the musicianship is absolutely flawless. The bass playing
will leave you open-mouthed. Seek this outmetal brethren.
| Rating - 9 Crematory |
| Act seven
| This is a very good CD. It is basically a mix of melodic gothic and death metal
with flosting keyboards that add a great atmosphere. The mainthing about this CD, is the heaviness of the guitar
riffs. The songs all feature very memorable choruses which are more often than not sung where as the verses
are growled. The growling here is very powerful and not at all annoying. You can also here what they
are saying which is always a plus point in my book. A very good effort from this successful German band.
| Rating - 8 Crimson Glory |
| Transcendence
| A classic early power metal band featuring the incomaparable vocals of Midnight.
This guy sure hits some serious highs, and the good thing is he always stays in tune! The songs are all pretty damn
killer like Red Sharks or Lady of winter and many more as well. Undeground power metal fans should seek this early classic out!
| Rating - 8 Crystal Eyes |
| World of black and silver
| A fairly unknown Swedish Power metal album that is truly outstanding for a debut album.
The sound is similar to Gamma Ray in many ways. The vocals are good but a little buried behind the guitars which are way up front
in the mix. But this does improve after a few songs and you can make out what they are saying. The guitars are an absolute dream though.
Heavy, melodic and powerful with a crushing sound. The songs are all memorable. Power fans seek out this classy offering.
