Machine Head | Review and Rating
The more things change
| The 2nd album from Machine Head has one or two good songs, however the majority
of the album is fairly boring and is nothing new when compared to their first album. This album does have Ten Ton Hammer which
is an awesome heavy track.
| Rating - 5 Burn My eyes
| A great 90s thrash album. Features many classy tracks that thrash along at a fast pace and also show extreme
heaviness. This is the best Machine Head album by far.
| Rating - 7 Madryghal
| Dreamless Falling
| Basically this is fairly unknown symphonic speed metal from Italy.
The quality of the CD leaves room for plenty of improvement, but as it is a debut, they gain some credit as it is a fair listen. Songs are all
melodic with a semi-medieval theme similar to some Blind Guardian. Vocals are the real weak point. They could do with getting a proper vocalist that
can match the ambitious arrangements that they use in the songs. Not Bad!
| Rating - 6 Magellan |
| Impending Ascension
| Magellan plays progressive rock that puts the keyboard at the forefront. The guitars on this album
are at times fairly heavy and those are the moments I enjoy most. I think the vocals are great as well. The singer uses interesting melodies
throughout and the lyrics are fairly strange and can be quite amusing. Best song here is Virtual Reality which sound like a proper prog metal song with heavy guitars
and keyboards mixed together. An enjoyable album for fans of bands like YES and even Dream Theatre without the guitar histrionics!
| Rating - 7 Test of Wills
| Their latest album is quite different than impending ascension. It is much heavier, more in the realms of metal than prog rock.
There are some very enjoyable songs on this record. Very melodic at all times. Metal fans can get more from this than before when the band was more prog rock orientated.
Very interesting lyrics once again with the length of songs being quite long as seems the norm with Progressive bands. Good stuff!

| Marching out
| I'm not a masive fan of Yngwie! This album is one of his early works and features Jeff Scott Soto on vocals.
The man sings well and the songs are fairly catchy. The sound of this disk is pretty weak which detracts from the disk slightly.
Yngwie shreds on his guitar as you would expect from time to time!
| Rating - 7 Manowar |
| Louder than hell
| The latest Manowar album although it came out 4 years ago. The sound is fairly good for a Manowar which is a bonus as most
of their albums have weak productions. Everything here is pretty typical of the band. Rockers, slow tempos, fast paced, ballads even an instrumental is thrown in.
In fact the instrumental is a very moody piece that is not really a song but is quite interesting to listen to. Other than that, the other songs are all OK to good. The best ones
being Courage and Brothers of Metal. Hail Manowar! Hail Brothers!
| Rating - 7 Kings of Metal
| Apart from the terrible track Pleasure Slave and a couple of other duff moments this is a classic.
It features some of the most classic Manowar songs and also the silliest ones! Heart of Steel and The crown and the ring are absolute classics packed with great
emotional singing from Eric Adams. The music is fairly standard for Manowar with catchy moments aplenty. The best thing about it is undoubtedly the vocals!
| Rating - 9 Sign of the Hammer
| Some good to great tracks as usual like Mountains but some horrible ones like Animals!
Again the vocals are superb. It rings out true and clear.
| Rating - 7 Steel warriors
| A Manowar compilation featuring mainly songs from the albums Hail to England and Fighting the world.
Many great tracks but one or two that are not that great as per usual! Vocals as you would guess are great! Sound is pretty awful in some places which is again
the norm with stuff from the 80s. Its the slow epic songs that are the best! I also like the song Army of the Immortals, it has anice tempo with a very anthemic chorus about Manowar and the band's fans.
| Rating - 8 Marshall Law |
| Warning from History
| True heavy Judas Priest influenced Metal from England. Damn good stuff it is too! Everything here reminds the listener
of the classic Judas Priest sound. Guitars tear out with riffs all over the place, solos burn and vocals scream. Obviously the singer is no Rob Halford
but he does the job satisfactorily. The songs are all fairly catchy and are meant for the purpose of headbanging!
Choruse are fairly memorable and can be sung along to after just one listen as they are not too wordy. Phrases are repeated quite often
as Judas Priest would. The sound is fairly good, but since this is an underground band it could have been better given more time
in the studio to improve things with regards to that.
| Rating - 8 Marshall Law
| The very first Marshall Law album is again fairly good quality power metal. The sound is weaker, however
the songs are again very decent. The riffs gallop along at a fairly speedy rate and the urge to headbang soon takes over at times.
Decent stuff for what was debut for this band back in 1989.
| Rating - 7 Martyr |
| Hopeless hopes
| I'm quite a fan of technical Death metal and this is what Martyr have to offer. This sounds quite a lot like Death in many ways,
and although the production is weak, it is fairly clear with every instrument especially the bass given plenty of room. As with all technical death metal bands, the music has many different twists and turns which
is of course just the way I like it. The riffs are at times very complicated which is again what technical metal fans want! The vocals are fairly standard for this type of music
but to my mind they don't detract from the music. The songs themselves could do with being a bit more melodic but as this is a self released debut it shows amazing potential.Great stuff!
| Rating - 8 Mastermind |
| volume one
| Very old sounding prog rock. Quite interesting at times, but far from metal.
The keyboard sound is very dated and not at all symphonic. This is quite a weird album which is perhaps the very beginnings of
what is known as progressive metal these days.

| The Craving
| Dave Mustaine side Project featuring vocalist Lee Ving from the US punk band FEAR. The music is fairly good but the vocals take some getting used to!
Not bad, but I don't think most Megadeth fans will be able to handle the vocals altough the music sounds vaguely like Megadeth.
I think Dave put some throwaway stuff on here that he would discard for Megadeth as being unsuitable!
| Rating - 7 Megadeth |
| Hidden Treasures
| A Cd featuring Megadeth tracks unavailable previously on a single megadeth album.
Some very decent tracks as per usual for 'deth fans to enjoy. Problems, the Sex Pistols cover is absolutely
awful though! Good tracks include near enough all the rest. Tracks like Angry Again, 99 ways to die, Go to Hell, Breakpoint etc.
| Rating - 8 Cryptic writings
| This album is real mix of different Megadeth styles. Faster heavier tracks are intertwined with melodic semi-ballads all the way through.
My favourite tracks are the more metallic tracks as you would guess. Vortex being the best track in my opinion. A good Megadeth album which always stays melodic and has something for fans from all eras.
| Rating - 7 Countdown to extinction
| A classic album from start to finish! My first introduction to Megadeth and perhaps the reason why I became a heavy metal fan!
Many classic songs, plenty of great riffs and solos. Great memorable songs and crystal clear heavy sound! what more can you ask from an album!
| Rating - 10 Youthanasia
| After the cold sound of Countdown comes the much more melodic and warmer
sound of this album. Songs are again all good to great. There is not a great deal of emphasis on guitar
riffs but more on how the song flows. Technicality is dropped somewhat in favour of melodic song-writing. still it makes for a high quality album.
Best tracks are Reckonning Day, addicted to Chaos, The killing Road. Although the other songs are all great as well!
| Rating - 8 Peace sells...but whose buying?
| A thrash classic from the 'deth! Wake up dead is an absolute classic. This album is all about classic riffs and thrashing speed!
More refined than the debut offering, but still a weaker sound stops this album getting full marks!
| Rating - 9 Rust in peace
| The number one thrash classic! Buy or Die!
| Rating - 10 So far so good... so what
| A good Megadeth album. Production once again leaves abit to be desired.
songs are pretty good with one or two classics! In My darkest hour being the main one!
| Rating - 7 Friday 13 (Live)
| Live Megadeth album with fluctuating sound quality. Sometimes good and sometimes quite muddy sound. The performances
seem pretty good an alot of songs from Cryptic Writings are aired as this album was released at around the same times as that album. OK for collective
purposes.
| Rating - 7 Risk
| The latest Megadeth album sees a pretty drastic change in style. Not to say that this is a bad album, but it is totally
different than the tried and tested Megadeth style. Some of the songs are pretty good but there is just too much here that is non-Megadeth material.

| All I can say is that the only reason that this doesn't get a 10 is because
the sound is recorded too low and you have to turn it up loud to hear it properly. Other than that, this is
some of the best power metal I have ever heard and it is a debut album! Special mention for the vocalist who is
the vocal find of the millenium. What a voice this young man has! What great songs this band writes for him to sing! I can't wait for the second album
but how can they top this?!!
