FERRIA
CORDOBA, SPAIN
Each year the Andalucian Region of Southern Spain celebrates Ferria, a celebration marking the beginning of the Roman Catholic Lenten season. While Lent is a time of sacrifice, Ferria ( known as Carneval and Mardi Gras elsewhere in the world) is a time of indulgence. During the four days preceding Lent, parties rage day in and day out. The picture above shows a Cordoban woman and her daughter dancing the sevillanas, a traditional Andalucian dance. Also, note the traditional dresses of the women.
