December 9, 2006 the APF held the Sam Houaston Open Powerlifting Championships at Sam Houston High School in Houston Texas.  Thanks to Houston ISD and Sam Houston High School for allowing us to put on this meet.  Also a huge thanks to judges Brian Kline, Mark Harris Tom McCullough, Maria McCullough, score keeper Tom McCullough and Maria McCullough, expeditor Fred McCullough, platform manager Brian Propst, spotters and loaders Jose Marroquin, Ivan Olvera, Ruben Galendo and Cesar Martinez.  Without the hard work of these individuals, the meet would not have taken place. I want to also say thank you to Gene Wagonseller for allowing us to use his monolift for this meet. Thanks to all the lifters who attended this meet and all of the people who drove out to watch.  A special thanks also to Inzer Advance Designs for supporting this sport and our meets for many years, Mike Lambert of Powerlifting USA who has been there supporting us all for a long time and a huge thanks to Houston ISD and Sam Houston High School for all of their support over the past 6 years.

More meet results..........July 8, 2006 NASA held their Greater Houston Open in Alvin, Texas.  Click on the link to see th results. Special thanks to Garrett and Don Taylor, Steve and Danielle Wisnieski, George & Cindy Wells, Heather Fry & her Mother, David Wisnieski and all the other great people in Alvin. Although this meet was small, everyone had a great time.
NASA also had their East Texas Regional in Tyler, Texas on September 16, 2006.  Follow the link to those meet results.  On December 11, 2006 in Herford, Texas  NASA held their West Texas Regional.  Meet results for this meet can be found at the link.

Here is a list of the APF meets......June 6-7, 3006 in Brownsville, Texas was the Texas Police Games; Jun e 10, 2006 was the  South Texas Championships in Seguin, Texas; July 22, 2006 in San Antonio, Texas was the Paul Barbie Classic, and on November 4, 2006, in Plano, Texas was the Texas Cup. 

The USAPL had their Longhorn Open on November 18, 2006 in San Marcos, Texas.  March 11, in Killeen, Texas was the Military Nationals, and on May 5-7, 2006 in Killeen, Texas was the Masters Nationals. All meet results can be viewed by clicking on the link.

Check out the latest meet results!  The APA held their Summer Bash in Houston, Texas on May 20th.  The turn out was big and the lifting even bigger.  Teen lifter Rebecca Jordan set several world records while thrilling the crowd.  Big William Sterling hit a huge 650 bench and almost got 705 on his 2nd and 3rd attempts.  Brian Propst had a great day walking out of the meet with Best Lifter.

NASA held their South Texas State in Alvin, Texas on March 20th.  This meet too had a great turnout and some fine lifting.  On May 27th in Longview, Texas NASA held their East Texas State and on July 8th the Greater Houston Open, held in Alvin, Texas, took place.  All fo the NASA meets resultscan be seen by clicking on the links.  Congratulation to all who lifted in those meets.

The APF held their Barbee Classic in San Antonio, Texas on July 22, and their Southeast Challenge in Vodor, Texas on July 29th.  Look for the meet results soon!

Got a lot of catching up since the last update.  Anyway, NASA has had quite a few meets in Texas since my last update.  The NASA West Texas State was held in Herford, Texas on May 11th;  the NASA South Texas State was held in Alvin, Texas on May 20th; and the NASA East Texas State held in Longview, Texas on May 25th.  Congratualtions to all who lifted in these meets.

The APA held the Summer Bash Powerlifting Championships in Houston, Texas on May 20th.  There was a very large turnout and lots of big records set.  Brian propst from Houston, Texas ended his day as best lifter with a 1530 total at 242.   Houston Lifter William Sterling set a Texas bench record with his 1st attempt of 675.  Congratulations to all who lifted in this meet too.

The APF held their Texas State Championships in Houston, Texas on April, 1st.  Gary Pendergrass had a huge turnout and there were quite a few big records set there too.  Gene Bell had a  922.5 squat and a 2154 total at 49 years old.  TJ Horner of Vidor, Texas went home with a 814.5 squat, a 635 deadlift and a 1687.5 total at  148 pounds.  Congratualtions to all who lifted on this meet.

The Texas High School Powerlifting Association held their Texas State Boys Powerlifting Championships here today at Aldine ISD's Sports Complex.  While the numbers are not in yet, it appeared there were over 600 boys competing from all over Texas.  Not only was there a huge turn out in lifters there must have been well over 1000 spectators.  The baskball complex was completely full!  NINE PLATFORMS at once were running.  The meet ran very smoothly and by noon the bench press event was almost half over.  Also in attendance were Tiny Meeker, John Stewart, TJ Horner and many others.  Congratulations to all who lifted and those who did such a fine job putting this meet on.  When the final results are up we will let you know.

The USPF also held their Texas State meet in Austin.  Look for the results soon.  Next weekend in Houston, Texas the  APF will hodl their Texas State meet.  Looks like Houston is quickly becomeing the hot bed for big powerlifting meets.

The APA Texas State Powerlifting Championships were held in Houston, Texas on Saturday March 4.  Thanks to Houston ISD and Sam Houston High School for hosting this meet.  Also a huge thanks to judges Brian Kline, Josh Ash, and Tom McCullough, score keeper Maria McCullough, spotters and loaders Joe Sassy, Sherman Patterson and Big Mike Salinas, April Terrazas, and the Sam Houston High School Tiger Powerlifting Team.  Without the hard work of these individuals, the meet would not have taken place.
Thanks to all the lifters who attended this meet and all of the people who drove out to watch.  You guys and gals are what this sport is all about.  A special thanks to Inzer Advance Designs for supporting this sport and our meets for many years, Mike Lambert of Powerlifting USA who has been there supporting us all for a long time and Brandon Smith of RockHard Threadz.

Tiny Meeker goes 942 for a new all time 308 bench press record.  This puts Texas lifter Meeker at the 3rd highest bench press ever done in our sports history.   Texas lifter Mike DeLavall goes 750 as a master setting a new all time Texas 275 record.  Tiny Meeker and teen lifter Amanda Harris have both been given invitations to lift in this years Arnold Classic.  Lets wait and see if  Mike will be there too!  Lets here it for Texas!!!!

The APA Houston Open Push - Pull Championships were held at Sam Houston High School in Houston, Texas on Saturday, February 18, 2006.   Also a huge thanks to judges Mark Harris, Ann Harris, and Matt Wray, score keeper Maria McCullough.,  spotters and loaders JonTrey Reed, Sherman Patterson and Big Mike Salinas, Emmanuel Amaro, and the Sam Houston High School Tiger Powerlifting Team.  Without the hard work of these individuals, the meet would not have taken place.

The APA Space City Bench Press Extravaganza was held at Sam Houston High School in Houston, Texas on Saturday, January 21, 2006.  A big thanks to the Sam Houston High School Powerlifting Team for all the work they did helping set up and run this meet.  Thanks also to our judges Mark Harris, Steve Burttshell, Brian Kline and our score keeper and photographer Maria McCullough.

 

The day started out with Jimmy Romero in the men’s 132.  Romero ended his day with a 3^rd attempt of 155 pounds in the teen 16-17 division  In the 148’s, teen lifter Joe Ruiz had a big day setting a Texas record with his 3^rd attempt of 230 pounds.  Jaun Gonzalez lifting in the 165’s put up 170, while Jessee Huerta benched an easy 200 for a new Texas record.  Master lifter Russel Roberts lifting in the 198’s, had a great day bringing home three Texas records with a 290, 310 and 325.  Also lifting in the 198’s, teen lifter Cedric Morris,  placed 1^st with his 225 bench.  Lifting in the masters 220’s, John Guiterrez placed 1^st with his 90 opener and teen lifter Jose Marroquin ended his day with 230.  In the 242 submaster, Brian Propst missed his 1^st attempt only to come back and nail 445.  Raymond Jansky had a rough day missing all three attempts.  Lifting in the master division, Chuck Young went 225 on his 1^st attempt and missed his 2^nd.  Teen lifter Matthew Matta went 3 for 3 nailing 230 on his 3^rd.  In the 18-19 year old teen division Lewis Torres hit 325 on his 2^nd attempt beating Rosendo Gonzalez’s 190 for 1^st place.  Torrez also took home the Best Teenage Lifter award.  In the 275’s, big Jeff Snyder opened up with a huge 655 and could not lock it out all the way.  Snyder came back on his 2^nd attempt and finished off what he couldn’t do before by nailing 655.  On his 3^rd Jeff went 705 but was out of gas.  Snyder took home a new Texas Open 275 record with his 655, beating Tiny Meeker’s old record set several years back. Tiny Meeker was even there to help him do it.  Not only did Jeff set a new Texas record but he went home with the Best Lifter award.  Look for some big numbers coming out of Jeff Snyder in the near future. In the submaster division, Chris Radcliff opened up with 365 and took an easy 405 on his 2^nd attempt..  Master lifter Raymond Young set an easy Texas record with his 440 2^nd attempt.  In the teen division, Heriberto Cantu edged out Ben Zepeda taking home the gold with his opener of 275.  Sepeda set a new Texas record with his 1^st and 2^nd attempt, but Cantu came back on his 2^nd attempt to put the Texas record in his pocket.  In the SHW’s,  Sean Castillo opened up with a 565 bench and got a little out of the groove. Costillo took 585 on his 2^nd attempt and drove it home.  This was enough to give Costillo a new Pennsylvania State SHW record.  On his 3^rd attempt Sean gave 605 for a ride but it was just no there this time. 

 

In the women’s division, teen world champion Amanda Harris opened up with 120 and took 135 for a world record attempt 3 more times, just missing it each time.  Expect Harris to come back at her next meet and put 135 in the record books.
