GENERAL INFORMATION
LOCATION
In the south Andean zone of Peru. The department, has this mountain range
called Huaso, which makes it very uneven with high summits and deep valley
in its territory.
EXTENSION
The Department of Apurimac has an extension of 20,895 square kms.
POPULATION
It has a population of 410,000 inhabitants.
CAPITAL OF THE DEPARTMENT
Abancay is located at an altitude of 2,380 meters above sea level, in the
valley of the Ñariño River and at the foot of the Ampay Mountain.
CLIMATE
Moderate and dry. Its average temperature
is of 16°C. The best months to visit is from June to October, the rest of
the year it rains.
ACCESS / APPROACH
By Air:
Regular flights to Andahuaylas and from there take a bus to
Abancay (136 kms.)
By Land:
Its 910 kms. from Lima and there is two ways to get to Abancay: Normal
route: - Lima - Nazca - Puquio - Chalhuanca - Abancay. Adventure route:
- Lima
- La Oroya - Huancayo - Ayacucho - Abancay. |
