The Red-bearded Bee-eater. Size 32 cm (13 in). The male is bright green wiht
throat and breast crimson, forehead lilac. Undertail coverts pale
orange-yellow with broad blackish terminal band. Female is like male except
forehead is red. Occurs in Myanmar, southern Thailand through the Malay
Peninsula to Sumatra and Borneo. Resident in Malaysia from low elevations up
to 1100 m , south to Johore prefering forests and the forests edge. Hawks
for insects from perch like its open country cousins.
