Black Magpie (Platysmurus leucopterus). Size 41 cm
(16 in). Drongo like with long and heavy tail. Glossy black plumage, long
white wingbar, red iris diagnostic. Crest over bill is larger than
illustration in Allen Jeyarajasingam's guide. Noisy. Found in Myanmar
through the Malay Peninsula to Sumatra and Borneo. Resident in Malaysia from
low elevations up to 200 m, south to Johore in forests, forest edge and
mangroves. Frequents the canopy and middle storey singly or in pairs and
more. I saw about 4 individuals. Feeds on insects caught in the foliage.

Photo digiscoped this evening at Bukit Kinta near Ipoh from a vantage point
at least 500 ft away. Photo shot landscape but cropped vertical about 50%
from center so quality is poor.
