The Brahminy Kite
is 43 - 51 cm (17 - 20 in) in size.
White head, neck and breast, streaked blackish brown contrasting
with bright chestnut upperparts diagnostic. Occurs in the Indian subcontinent,
southern China and
South-East Asia to the Indonesian Archipelago, Australia and the Solomon
Islands.
Common resident at
low elevations in coastal districts and offshore islands south to Singapore.
Very commonly seen at harbours and fishing villages. Also found inlands in the
suburbs of towns.
Likes to congregate in small groups soaring over mangroves and fishing villages
where it scavenges on offals and discarded fish from fishing boats.
