A Common Tailorbird. Size 12 cm (4.75 in). Rufous
forecrown, olive green upperparts and pale buff underparts. Occurs in the
Indian subcontinent and southern China throughout South-East Asia to the
Malay Peninsula and Java. It is resident in Malaysia at low elevations up to
1580 m, south to Singapore. It is a uncommon garden bird where I am. It
favours open country, scrub, the forest edge, mangroves, plantations,
gardens often seen flitting about the understorey solitarily or in pairs
often cocking its tail. It sometimes nests in potted plants in gardens
stitching broad leaf with other dried leaf materials and strings.
