Gold-whiskered Barbet
This is the Gold-whiskered Barbet (Megalaima chrysopogon). Size 30 cm (12
in). Large barbet with thick bill. Bright yellow oval cheek patch
diagnostic. Forecrown greyish buff; forehead and hindcrown red. Throat
greyish brown ; bill blackish with base grey.
Ranges the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra and Borneo. It is a common resident in
pen.Malaysia from low elevation up to 1100 m, south to Johore. Usually found
in forests, forest edge, and densely wooded areas although in this case,
this bird was found nesting by the roadside on an old durian tree.
