This is the Brown-capped Woodpecker (Picoides moluccensis). Size 14 cm
(5.5 in). This is a male differentiated from the female by a small red
(streak?) patch behind the eye on the hind crown, which is difficult to
see if you don't use a telescope. Dark brown crown, dark brown
upperparts, dark malar stripes and white underparts marked with dark
streaks.

Resident here in Malaysia at low elevation, it is found along the
coastal beaches south to Singapore.
