This is a Java Sparrow (Padda oryzivora). Size 16 cm (6.5 in). Generally
larger than munias with pale grey plumage, red bill, pink legs, black head
with broad white cheek paches. Lower belly pale pinkish, undertail coverts
white and tail black. Unmistakable in the field. Occurs in Java and Bali and
widely introduced elsewhere including Malaysia which derived mostly from
escaped caged specimens. Found in towns, cities, gardens, open country and
ricefields in small loose parties. This bird was one of two seen on the
Sunday (8 July) morning at Kek Look Tong garden in a Weeping Willow tree.
