Osprey (Pandion haliaetus)
55 - 61 cm (20 - 23 in). White head and neck with broad black eyeline,
blackish-brown nape and upperparts together with white underparts with blackish
brown streaked breast diagnostic.
Iris yellow, legs greyish.
Occurs throughout temperate
and sub-tropical latitudes worldwide;northern populations are migratory,
wintering south to tropical and equatorial regions. In Malaysia it is a
non-breeding visitor at low elevations,
south to Singapore. Fairly common during and between autumn and spring
migration.
Found in mangroves, coasts, fish ponds, settled mining pools and forested
waterways.
