This is the Pied Triller (Lalage nigra). Size 18 cm (7 in.). Bird has dark
crown, white supercilium and black eyeline and broad staggered white
wingbars. Bill dark grey, black back, white underparts, grey rump and white
tip to the black tail. This bird range from Malay Peninsula south the the
Greater and Lesser Sundas and east to Sulawesi and the Philippines. It is
fairly common resident in Malaysia south to Singapore. Although it is
supposed to be common, it is not as often seen as the Oriental Magpie Robin
due to it unobtrusive behaviour. Its habitat includes mangrove edge, scrub,
plantations and gardens. It is usually solitary but sometimes seen in pairs
keeping to the leaf cover feeding on insects.
