LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD

Also known as The Linc, Lincoln Financial Field was built to replace the aging Veterans Stadium of the Philadelphia Eagles. Regarded as the worst venue in the league, the Eagles and the Philadelphia Phillies (MLB) shared Veterans Stadium. The construction on the new stadium began in April 2001. Lincoln Financial Field replaced the old Veterans Stadium after over two years of construction. Built at the cost of $512 million, the stadium was inaugurated on August 8, 2003. In June 2002, Lincoln Financial Group agreed to pay $139.6 million for the naming rights. The Eagles played there first game at Lincoln Financial Field against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 8, 2003.

LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD

With the seating capacity 68,532, the stadium hosted the preseason friendly match between European soccer giants Manchester United and FC Barcelona on their inaugural ceremony. Almost two-thirds of the seats are located on the sidelines, and are 60 feet from the field. The arena has outstanding aesthetics. One of the most distinctive features of the stadium is its wing-like coverings over the upper stand. The wing-like coverings exaggerate the sound elements increasing the entertainment along with the experience of the spectators. Even the crown of the arena is like a wing. The stadium has not been given a traditional bowl appearance. The three open plaza corners for views of the city and into the stadium. Two 27ft. by 96ft. video boards are set up between the lower and upper decks in the end zones. The width of the courtyard at Lincoln Field Stadium is almost twice that of Veterans Stadium

The acoustics at the stadium produce a distinct hearing due to a strategic placing of numerous small speakers. It is supported with HDTV flat screen that extends nearly to the entire width of the field.

The stadium has 172 luxury suites with draw back glass windows and 3,040 luxury suite seats. Two antechambers with rest rooms also circle the stadium. There are 9,000 club seats, a 100, 00 square foot fan oriented plaza, and an Eagles team store.

The stadium hosted some matches in the FIFA Women's World Cup for soccer in 2003. The stadium hosts the Army-Navy football game and Temple University's Division I-A college football. Temple University signed a 15-year deal with the Eagles on August 13, 2003 to play their home football games at Lincoln Financial Field. The contract between Temple and the Eagles is the fifth recent partnership between a NFL team and a Division I-A organization to use the same stadium for home contests on a full-time basis.
