The original name of Sayan was Sullan of Checta, which means standing up. This town was founded by the Spaniards, as a village for the Indigenous, under the patronage of the Saint San Jeronimo, in the same spot where it is now. The Dominicans were the first ones to preach the word of God to begin the indoctrination process, which was continued this work by the Jesuits.
When it was issued the Provisional Regulation in 1821, Sayan appears in the category of a district, with it's capital Sayan, that will be confirmed by the Mariscal Don Ramon Castilla, on January 12, 1857. In 1964 the Parish of Sayan was created, at that time the population was of 1,510 persons.
ILLUSTRIOUS PERSONAGE
Manuel Tovar Chamorro. He was born on May 2, 1844 in Sayan. On December 8, 1898 he was appointed as the XXV Archbishop of Lima. He died on May 25, 1907, his remains were buried in the cemetery of Tarma, in the Department of Junin.
- VIEWPOINTS. From where you can see the countryside and the town; from the Cross and from the Cemetery.
- MUNICIPAL MUSEUM OF SAYAN. It has a varied collection of ceramics and paintings of the region, it's located in the old house of the General Don Jose de San Martin in the Plaza de Armas (Main Square).
- PLAZA DE ARMAS (Main Square). Surrounded by large ficus trees and it has been recently remodeled.
- CHURCH OF SAN JERONIMO. Where the Patron of the town can be seen, a historical monument, presents modern architectural lines because of the reconstruction that was made.
IN THE SURROUNDINGS
- QUINTAY. Located at 7 kms. from Sayán, 835 meters above sea level, famous for their landscape and wine in the region.
- CAÑAS. Located at 6 kms. from Sayan, 620 meters above sea level, were there is rock paintings.
- ANDAHUASI. 9 kms. from Sayán, 598 meters above sea level, which is a sugar cane cooperative. A picturesque village in the middle of sugar cane reeds.
- QUIPICO. Located at 15 kms. from Sayan, 562 meters above sea level, has an archaeological site which was a administrative center of the Chancay culture.
NOTE: You can also go from Sayan to the Thermal Baths of Churin (60 kms.).
- ATV's (4 wheeler). A journey of 14 kms. Sayan - Andahuasi - Sayan, going through the countryside in these localities.
- TREKKING. Two routes that start from Sayan: The first one is 2 days hike, Tres Montones- Cochacalla - Maray- Choques; and the second one, is 3 days, Quintay - Jatillo - San Martin de Mani - Maray - Choques. Likewise many places to walk in the countryside of Sayan.
- CAMPING. Sayan has an area for this sport, which is located alongside the River on the Malecon of La Rivera del Sol and is administered by the Municipality.
- MOUNTAIN BIKE. Countryside, hills, trails ideal for practicing this sport.
- RAFTING. Level 2. Short length of 3 km. Long length from Andahuasi to Sayan, there are certain places where there are obstacles and good rapids. (Only Holiday dates).
- RAPPEL. It takes place in the Hill of 17 de Enero. Pure adrenaline, sag on the wall with all applicable security. (Only Holiday dates).

DAY 1.- LIMA - SAYAN. Departure to Sayan via Huacho on a Local Bus Line (3 hrs.). Transfer to Sayan (1 hr.). Arrival and accommodation in a Hostel. And to close the morning, a leisurely swim in the municipal pool.
Afternoon city tour of the town visiting the Plaza de Armas, Museum, the Church of San Jeronimo, the Mirador and the Dulceria Lumbre to taste the delicious Alfajores of Sayan. Free Night. Overnight in Camp.
DAY 2.- SAYAN - LIMA. ATV ride through the countryside of Sayan. Return to the city of Lima.
