Dandelions
“You’re pretty,” Speed said suddenly, quite out of the blue. Lash lifted his head from where it had been resting on his crossed arms, lifting an eyebrow. “The fuck are you talking about?”
The two of them lay on the grass around the football field outside of Sky High, both supposed to be in Mad Science class, both lying in the warm sun and relaxing, instead. It was too nice of a day to waste inside, anyway.
Speed looked up at the fluffy clouds surrounding their school, and shrugged. “I dunno. You just are. Pretty, that is.”
“I’m not pretty,” Lash scoffed, dropping his head back on his arms.
“Sure you are,” Speed protested, sitting up. “You’re really pretty. Prettier than half the girls here, at least.”
“You’re asking for a whupping, Speed,” Lash muttered, eyes closed.
“I’m not saying you’re girly, or nothing,” Speed protested. “Just really pretty. I think it’s a good thing.”
“Of course you do.” Lash shook his head, trying to get back to his semi-napping.
Speed frowned, and started picking the random dandelions that dotted the grass cheerfully, then with a grin, leaned forward, and started weaving them into Lash’s long, silkily smooth hair.
“What are you doing?” Lash asked, opening one eye.
“Making you a crown,” Speed said calmly. “I think you’ll make prom king this year.”
“And who are you going to be? Prom queen?” Lash snickered, but didn’t move to make Speed stop his weaving.
“I’d look dumb in a dress,” Speed reminded him. “Besides, that’s totally Gwen’s thing. She’d kill me for trying to compete with her.”
“Why, do you want to be prom queen?” Lash yawned.
“If you were king... sure.” Speed shrugged, still weaving.
Lash rolled over, disrupting the weaving, leaving only the left side of his head with flowers, the right completely empty still. Lifting himself up a little, he squirmed over a little, laying back down so that his head settled into the much larger boy’s lap. “Tell me you’re joking.”
“Nope,” Speed said happily, setting to work again with the flowers.
“You’re just supposed to tell me you are,” Lash explained with a sigh.
“All right then, I’m telling you I’m joking,” Speeded nodded. “I’m not, though.”
“Not supposed to add the last part.”
“Sorry.”
“Goofball.”
“I love you too, Lash.”
Go back to Sky High.
