Dear Mr Giles
Thank you for your email.
As you have pointed out, the ABC has always used the word "Palmerston".
It will continue to do so in the future, and will not be referring to it
as The City Of Palmerston.
Palmerston is the common name used by the majority of Territorians.
Palmerston is used by the media, politicians, road signs and maps.
Palmerston City Council's own website refers to the city as
"Palmerston", not "The City of Palmerston".
The ABC believes that it is always clear in its reports about the area,
and our listeners and viewers have an immediate understanding of the
location we are referring to.
Nevertheless, your feedback on this matter is appreciated, and has been
brought to the attention of ABC News and Current Affairs. For your
reference, the ABC's Code of Practice is available online at:

My responce to ABC TV Feed back of 2-February-2007 RE " Pit Bulls story 31-January-2007".
Dear Miss Denise Musto,
Thank you for your feed back today 2-February-2007 concerning my email to the ABC TV of the 1 -February-2007 about " Pit Bulls story 31-January-2007" Sham on you ABC TV News Darwin.
It is indeed heartening to read that you have gone to The City of Palmerston web site as set out by the Palmerston City council and I would emphasize the word " CITY " council.
I would now have to ask the ABC TV how can you refer to a suburb if its not in a town or City if you are only refering geographically to a site of land being Palmerston where there are no suburbs in a geographical reference.
Whether or not the ABC TV has always used the word "Palmerston" is not really the question as that terminology of statement only applies in how the word is being used and what its being applied to.
How ever seemingly looking at what you have stated to me here in this your email in " that you will continue to do so in the future, and will not be referring to it as The City Of Palmerston ".
That choice of path is up to you at the ABC.
I would point out to you that you will comply with declared laws and lawfull acts and use and apply then in accordance with all declared laws and acts.
As for your seemingly attitude and stance on this matter of down playing The City of Palmerston I find this stance more than just disturbing of you and indeed of the ABC TV as what bearing would it have in law since the lawfull facts have been declared.
Seeing too how we residents do pay tax's as a CITY.
Yes I have read The City of Palmerston web site and yes it does refer geographically to Palmerston as being a CITY.
However further to the rest of the contents of you email and what ever you may think of this matter concerning The City of Palmerston is of no relevance to me other than stated lawful facts.
What is now also of concern to me in your reply is you trying in now turn this matter into some sort of popularity contest in stating that Palmerston is the common name used by the majority of Territorians.
Its seems endearing in many ways that the majority of Territorians use the word Palmerston as being a common name in use to this day how ever I would emphasize that this is just a local endearment.
It does not reflect the true facts of our " CITY statute " in that have been suppressed for a long time too and that the older Territorians do know the difference but majority of new Territorians along with overseas visitors are still being misslead.
That aspect of your email is also questionable in you having been supporting and broadcasting the wrong declared facts and putting out the wrong information not only to local TV viewers but also to overseas visitors and viewers through your use of internet multimedia streaming which is even more of a greater concern for all.
This fact has to be addressed correctly.
Also the amount of miss information that is being broadcasted is indeed of great concern as in this day and age we hear so much about political correctness.
That is why I would have thought indeed that at least the ABC TV would have got this fact right even locally but it seems not but rather you would it seems go with the latter of refering geographically to " Palmerston " as a land mass.
As to your statement of " Palmerston is used by the media, politicians, road signs and maps ".
Yes all of what you have stated here just about covers it very well in seeing too how the " ABC TV " is " media " and still going along with the rest in all still being incorrect even todate.
Perhaps political correctness would be a very good starting point for the ABC TV to take up.
As for maps of The Northern Territory even showing or refering geographically to " PALMERSTON " I know about only too well seeing how I got the name of " PALMERSTON " put on most Northern Territory map's in the first place when this indeed this should have been done many years before hand and well before The Township of Palmerston was declared a TOWN let alone when it was declared to be The City of Palmerston.
One last point concerning geographical reference as to PALMERSTON the word PALMERSTON was not on most Northern Territory maps at all not only that fact but geographically it was also called " The satellite city of the North " and that fact too was not on any map that was back in 1997 when there was the Township of Palmerston when it was declared a Town and that fact is well known too and is well before the year 2000 that is untill I got the name of PALMERSTON placed on the map in 2002 some 2 years after The City Of Palmerston was indeed declared a CITY.
Odd indeed that fact was was not done by the Northern Territory Government in the first place.
I would also give you two web site URL to view concerning The name of PALMERSTON as it was originally given to the early settlement of Darwin in 1855 to honour the then Prime Minister of Britain, Lord Palmerston (Henry John Temple) The name of Palmerston finally disappeared and years later the name Darwin was adopted as the official name of the capital.

Web Site: https://www.angelfire.com/oz/whereweare/index.html
I will now refer this matter on to the ACMA to investigate as you are not fully addressing the political correctness of the Lawfully Declared facts covering the Declared City of Palmerston.
