The Papaya Tree

Taken in May 1958. My brother Loren (up in the tree) and I. There were many papaya trees in our front and back yard. That was very beneficial as the fruit, when still green, can be cooked as a vegetable. This was often the “viand” (main veg. dish) at the Bible School, especially when funds were low. There were also some banana and other fruit trees in the backyard.

Notice some of the student and faculty nipa huts behind us, in the backyard. They also built a dining room, bathing area and outhouses.
