Step 1: Study Louisiana by using your text book and the resources provided on this website. Be sure you know the state symbols of Louisiana, some of the history of the settlement of Louisiana, and Louisiana's geographical features and resources. Make sure you can also differentiate between rural, suburban, and urban areas in Louisiana, and be prepared to give examples of each. Take the time to review some of the important elements of Louisiana culture as well.
Step 2: Once you have refreshed your memory about Louisiana's history, culture, and features, you will design and publish either a brochure or slideshow. Your projects will be scored using a rubric and self evaluation form which can be found by clicking "Evaluation".
Whether you create a brochure or a slideshow, your project must include the following:
An interesting title and statement of purpose
Information about at least 7 of the Louisiana state symbols
A brief summary about the history of Louisiana
Information about a rural, suburban, and urban area in Louisiana
At least 4 appropriate pictures or photographs
Our class contact information
Your name and the date you last updated your project
Brochure: Use Microsoft Word, Power Point, or Kid Pix to create your brochure. It must be at least two pages in length.
Slideshow: Your slideshow may be created with Power Point or Kid Pix. It must contain at least five slides.
Extension: When your project is completed and shared with your class, you will mail a copy of it to another third grade class of your choice. Enclose a letter to the class, explaining the project and asking for their feedback. You may want to include a self evaluation for the students in the class to assess what they learned from your project.
