What should your house be built with?

This page consists of the materials the homes we used for our energy conservation community.  The following will show the materials and why it is used.

The home envelope is the exterior of a home/building which helps the air flow of your home and keeps you cool or hot depending on the needed temperature.  We have done this in each house to maintaing a strogn air flow which will save you cash.  What we have done was we covered up cracks and holes throughtout the house to not allow any air leaks.  A house that releases more air from these holes makes the house uncomfortable with temperature and makes you energy much higher.  Most holes will be found in the attic or basement and can be covered with foam spray, chaulk or weather stripping.  By sealing our houses you can save big bucks when your energy bill comes in the mail.  Our unique facility does have this radiant barrier to conserve the heat gain or heat loss depending on the season and temperature.

A good type of insulation is a raidant barrier which is a metallic foil material for example aluminum.  The radiant barrier is made to block radiant heat transfer across the building or space.  It also helps winter heat loss and summer heat gain which will help where ever you live. Radiant Barriers is a must have when it comes to your home.

When it comes to the roof and walls we use a light colored paint/tile to reflect heat. We also planted tall trees to shade our roof and lose heat.  Radiant barrier insulation also helps on the roof heating and cooling system which we have installed.  We kept the North and South walls tall if you are just starting to build a house and the East and West walls lowered because of the path the sun moves.  Place unconditioned spaces on the East and West for example
garages, closets and any other buffer spaces. garages, closets and any other buffer spaces.

This house has good color on the walls but as you could see the roofing is black which will heat up the house dramatically.
