FALKENSTEINS IN AMERICA
INTRODUCTION Descendents of Ludwig Falkenstein 1706-1771
Before any thing else I must give credit to all of those that have provided information so far and much Credit to Edward Jesse Falkenstein (584) and his father Frank Charles (191). They did the majority of the earlier work on this Family Tree. I have tried to extend the information to the latest generations and to contact as many descendents of Ludwig Falkenstein as possible.
I would hope that all of you that find this site would tell others about it and that everyone would send me additional information and corrections. I will add data that you send and if you wish to have your name removed, I will replace it with asterisks.
Ludwig 1, who immigrated to The Colony of Pennsylvania in 1746. Since this is titled “Falkensteins In America”, I have considered Ludwig 1 the first generation. Ludwig and his wife, Agnes, had 10 children, 3 children died in Germany before the family left for the “New World” on March 25th. 1746. Since we only have records of 5 children arriving in America, I think it is safe to assume that 2 children perished during the long and difficult voyage.
According to records of the Evangelical Church in Engstlatt, Wurttemberg, Germany, the family name of Agnes was Falckenstein. She was the daughter of Hans Falckenstein.
She may have been a first or several times removed cousin. I am not an authority on this, but I have my doubts about this spelling. In 2 trips to Germany and visits to 7 Falkenstein sites, I have not found the name spelled any way except Falkenstein. In the Black Forest Museum, There is a Boundry Stone for Falkenstein Property from the 1500s with this spelling cut into the stone.
The family arrived in Philadelphia on September 27, 1746. Ludwig took the oath of allegiance to the government of Pennsylvania on that date. On October 4, 1746 he was
Indentured to Richard Wister of Philadelphia for 8 years as a button-maker to pay for the voyage. He did not skip out on this obligation as was common. He completed the indenture.
Agnes died in 1747 and Ludwig remarried in 1748 to Maria Barbara Hermannin. She had a daughter, Maria Veronica, from her previous marriage. The records of St. Michael and Zion Lutheran Church indicate that a male child, Stephen, was born of Ludwig’s remarriage. If he survived, he did so without leaving traces. Of the 5 children that arrived in America, 4 married and had children. Salome died at age 21.
The different family lines progressed at different rates so not all the present generations will be identical. Generally, most of those now between ages fifty to eighty will be in the ninth generation. The last persons that I have entered are in the twelfth generation. The Tree can never be finished, but it can be current. Help fertilize the Tree, contribute data. Thanks

UPDATE OF FAMILY TREE FILES
As of03/12/07
Dear Cousins, Friends, and Helpers,
If you have no interest in the genealogy connected with my website, then I apologize for troubling you.
The ninth Edition of the site is up. I now have 2672 individuals (including living)If you sent me anything after 04/12/07, it will not be on this update.
I need to address a misunderstanding. I normally follow a female line for a couple generations. When I still have information on individuals that far from the Falkenstein name, I put in the “notes” section of the last person.
As always, please let me know of any errors and/or typos so that I may correct them.
If you have any additional roots, branches, twigs, or leaves send them along
with your comments for the next revision and please tell other family members to contact me or send them the websites.
If you didn’t know, The girl on the Sunmaid raison box Was a Falkenstein. Her name was lorraine Collette (# 420) look her up in the Falkenstein Tree or at the company website. http://www.sunmaid.com/about/sunmaid_girl
We also have a great singer. Teresa (Ross) Falkenstein (#1655) has at least 2 CDs out. I heard her on the radio today on a jazz station.
"Family is like the branches of a tree. We may grow in different directions yet our roots remain as one. Each of us will always be part of the other."
