What circus is that, you ask? The Circus of Farb History!
Farbs make a lot of excuses for doing things the way they do. It's true that authentic things are expensive if you don't know where to look. It's true that the authentic/campaign/hardcore community are often, unfortunately, hostile towards our less accurate brothers and sisters who are trying to learn from their errors and move up the pyramid of authenticity. And it's also true that the more authentic you get, the harder your job as a living historian becomes and the itchier your clothing gets. I am not defending the tenents of Farbism, but I do recognize that it can be hard to improve. We don't all start out in the LR or the Southern Guard.
That said: there are some people out there who take Making Up The Rules to an uncomfortable degree. I don't know what to say about them, other than if you see them talking to a 'tater, tackle that unfortunate soul and get them out of the danger zone of ignorance! Many of these misguided "Civil War Buffs" can be found at the Confederate artillery line.
