Plus 12 volts is at the top of the diagram and ground is at the bottom. A resistor, R1, 27 k ohms, has one end connected to plus 12 volts. The other end connects to the base of an N P N bipolar junction transistor, BJT. The base also connects, but it doesn't anymore. R2 is missing and there is nothing there but an open circuit. The other end of R2 used to go to ground. One end of a resistor, Rc, 4.7 k ohms, connects to plus 12 volts. The other end of Rc connects to the collector of the same transistor.
