How to Make a Real-Life, Melt-Proof Snowman

I thought it might be fun to make a snowman for my site.  I had no idea how big of a hassle making a non-melted snowman would be!

After a lot of hassle with other methods, I finally got it to work!

The Materials:

Open the trash compactor bag and put it in front of you.  Take napkins, crumple them up and stuff them into the bag.  This step takes awhile; I recommend doing it while watching a movie or TV.  Repeat this for as many body segments as you wish.

When you are finished with the body, pour some sand or rocks into the trash bag.  This will keep the snowman from getting blown over.  Tie the bag up and seal it with the shipping tape to keep sand from leaking out. Shake the bag so that the sand sinks to the bottom.

Fold the shipping tape over into a loop and stick several pieces onto the top of the bottom-most body segment.  Put the next body segment on top and push the segments together firmly.  Use more tape along the sides where the two segments meet to firmly secure them.  Repeat this for an additional segment if you wish.

Choose the sites on your snowman’s “skin” where you want to put in the carrot and sticks.  Reinforce these sites by layering several strips of tape in an “X” shape.  Make sure a few of these strips are long to help distribute the weight.

Cut a hole in these areas about the size of the objects you want to put in them, perhaps a little smaller.  If you have properly reinforced the area, it should be slightly difficult to cut this hole.  For the carrot, whittle the thicker end down until it is of equal width to the middle of the carrot.

Push in the sticks and carrots and deeply in as you can into their proper holes.  Use looped over tape to tape the sticks to the snowman skin and help hold the sticks up.  Use extra tape wherever you can.  When you are satisfied they are secured firmly, use a generous amount of clear nail polish around the edges of the holes.  This will help keep the carrot and sticks in place and prevent sand leaking out.

Next, put a looped piece of tape wherever you want a piece of coal.  Stick the coal to the tape and secure it in place with two perpendicular pieces or tape stuck over the coal.  This extra tape will also keep the coal from flaking or rubbing off.

Congratulations!  You now have a snowman no matter what your temperature is outside!

I also made a fully melted snowman, which was much easier!  Just arrange 6 pieces of coal, a carrot and 2 sticks into the appropriate design, and you’re done!

a melted snowman: just sticks, coal and a carrot.
