Visa and flight-related FAQ
- Q:
They say that one has
to show binding ties to home country in the form of say,
only son, eldest son, own house, lands, etc, Unfortunatelty
none of these are applicable to me. I am the second son of my
father and we dont have any asserts which can be shown to the
consulate. My fathers bank account has a balance of ($ 8000.00 ).
Will this be of any help ?? How much is one supposed to show at
the consulate ? My I-20 shows that I am having full funding from
the institute. Can you advise me as to what can be done ?
A:Take it easy. No Visa officer is going to deny you a visa
for that!
Two ISI student faced temporary troubles with
visa, but those were rather exceptions than rules. The main
potential danger is actually a hostile visa officer bent on causing
trouble. However, so far no visa officer has been known to prevent any
ISIan from going to the US.
- Q: Is it possible to obtain concession on the air tickets
for going to
the US?
A: I have heard about the theoretical existence of such
concessions for students, but have no idea whether the concession
ever materializes in practice. I myself could not get any, and I do
not know of any ISIan who got one. However, it is always a good idea
to ask your travel agent about available concessions.
- Q: Does a student need to show any Income Tax clearance
before leaving India?
A: I have heard that theoretically the answer is
"yes". However, I have never heard that any student
was ever even asked to show IT clearance. Hardly any
student cares to get IT clearance documents. I know of
only two students who did, but
they had no occasion to use them.
