My name is Kashia Rector and my major at the University of Houston is Consumer Science and Merchandising. The field that I plan to go into is Visual Merchandising Coordination. The University of Houston website lists this field as follows:

Visual Merchandising Coordinator: The essence of retail is defined by the ability to compel the prospective customer to stop, to look, and to buy. Today's customers look beyond simple commodities and basic merchandise, to that which satisfies their wants, needs, and desires. This informed consumer demands selection and quality. To fulfill these expectations, successful visual merchandising coordinators retailers place a great emphasis on compelling life-style presentations of merchandise. The store environment serves as the selling stage for the latest merchandise offerings of the day. Visual merchandising is the passion of retailing.

Basically, I will be helping companies design layouts to various stores to maximize the consumer's shopping experience. I will also design the layouts for all merchandise in the store. In effect, I will be responsible for the flow of the store and the overall response of the consumer to purchase items in that particular location.
