The question has arisen - How to meditate? There are so many different techniques. These techniques seem to contradict one another. But it only appears that way from the level of duality - this is the correct way, therefore that way must be wrong. Some techniques are more yin and some more yang, and you will find yourself naturally drawn to one or the other. There is not one right way to meditate, but you must choose one or two techniques and focus all of your energy into them and act as if they are the only way. It would take an extremely flexible mind to juggle the tension of opposing techniques, and anyway it isn’t necessary.
So here is a deceptively simple technique to begin meditation:
Put your body in a comfortable position, preferably with your spine straight. Close your eyes and breathe naturally. As you breathe, place your attention on the space between the in breath and the out breath. Don’t force, just gently watch the space btween the breaths.Make time for yourself when you won’t be disturbed.
Many of you become frustrated with meditation in the beginning. Distractions and thoughts can invade your consciousness. Thoughts will occur naturally, you should not fight with them. Niether should you indulge them. Just watch them pass by on the screen of the mind. When you notice you have been thinking, do not chastise yourself. Simply go back to the space between the breaths, gently, calmly watching. Many of you would like to catch consciousness and put it in a bottle. There is no silver bullet for moving past your mind, just practice your techniques daily. Five minutes is better than no minutes, but twenty to thirty minutes in the morning would be ideal. This technique can also be practiced with your eyes open, once you get the feel for it. You could meditate the whole day if you like, even at work and in the car. Consciousness does not mind if the body is busy. Many of you operate in ‘robot mode’ anyway, so there is plenty of room for some simple meditation. You are all flowing some level of divinity, you wouldn’t be here without it. If you put your focus, your attention on flowing more of that divinity you will accelerate the process. So here is the technique for grounding divine energy:
Take a few slow, deep, complete breaths. Let go of anything that may be bothering you. Close your eyes.Imagine a golden white beam of liquid light shining down from Spirit, and entering your body through the crown of your head.
Let this light fill your head, neck, arms, and the rest of your body. FEEL the light moving deeply into your veins, your blood, your organs.
When you are a full of light, shining brightly, send this beam through your feet and into the earth. Feel it moving deeply into her, moving to her center.
Intend that from this moment forward, you will be a grounding point for divine energies. When you are ready, open your eyes and go about your day with this fresh perspective.
