SALISBURY -- Benjamin O. Carter, 68, of Salisbury died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
Born in Salisbury, he was a son of the late James A. and Florence Figgs Carter.
Mr. Carter was a member of Allen Memorial Baptist Church and UFCW Local 27. He worked at A&P food store for 30 years. His favorite sport was fishing. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren and his whole family. He touched many people with kindness and a helping hand. He loved to laugh and make people laugh. He never missed his grandchildren's baseball games or any other activity they were involved in.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Phyllis Petitt Carter; three children, Teresa Davis and her husband, Andy, of Delmar, Tammy Carter of Salisbury and Allen B. Carter and his wife, Marilyn, of Salisbury; six grandchildren, Drew and Samantha Davis, Benjamin M. Carter, Sarah B. Little, and Kyle and Zach Burroughs; two brothers, Charlie Hamann of Still Pond, Md., and Russell Hamann of Crumpton, Md.; four sisters, Doris Estep of Newport, N.C., Linda Webster of Wenona, and Marie Minner and Florence Bumbrey, both of Salisbury; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Carter and Elmer Hamann.
A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Holloway Funeral Home. Visitation will be tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Woodrow Crouse will officiate. Interment will be in Spence Baptist Church Cemetery in Snow Hill.
