Sheldon Willis "Tex" Stout II, 66, Bull Shoals, Ark., and formerly of Sarasota and Arcadia, died July 25, 2002, in Springfield, Mo., from Ehrlichiosis as a result of a deer tick bite.

He was born May 18, 1936, in Hamilton, Ohio, and in 1967 moved to Sarasota from Cedar Grove, Ind. He moved to Arcadia in 1969. He attended Ohio State University and Colorado A&M College on a track scholarship. In 1956 he owned and operated an A&W Root Beer franchise in Greenville, Ohio, and from 1963 to 1967 owned and operated the Three Sisters Farm, a hay, corn and cattle farm in Cedar Grove. After moving to Arcadia, he originated the Canoe Outpost, a canoe outfitting business on the Peace River and eventually owned 12 and operated two Canoe Outpost franchises in Florida. He was a canoe guide on trips on the Suwanee River and into the Okefenokee Swamp, the Everglades and others, serving as a public relations guide and outfitter for the Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Wilderness Society and other agencies. He retired at age 45 and grew hay and raised cattle in Sarasota and later in Missouri. He was a member of Masonic Blue Lodge 147 in Greenville, Ohio. He was a Methodist. Survivors include daughters Dawn Sandum of San Diego, Deann Carroll of Vero Beach, Shelly of Venice, Audra Dunn of Tampa and Dakota Keating of West Plains, Mo.; a brother, Jim of Harrison, Ohio; and six grandchildren. Masonic and memorial services will be in Harrison. Braders Funeral Home, Harrison, is in charge.
