Titan was threatened by a catastrophic event, one that the Titan Thanos thought he could prevent with drastic solutions. He sought to implement a system where they would impartially kill members of their society to stop overpopulation. While the Titans did not allow Thanos to pursue his plans, the catastrophe hit Titan, causing the mass extinction of most of the planet's lifeforms.
