The Directorate for Inter-Services Intelligence (also Inter-Services Intelligence or ISI) is the largest and most powerful of the three main branches of the intelligence agency of Pakistan.

ISI is responsible for gathering and the cataloging of foreign and domestic intelligence and the smooth coordination of intelligence between the three main military branches. History

After the partition of British India, two new intelligence agencies were created in Pakistan called the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Military Intelligence (MI). However the weak performance of the Military Intelligence (MI) in sharing of intelligence between the Army, Navy and Air Force during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947 lead to the creation the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
