Southern Country

Abreu

There is a cantina on the premises, along with buildings that are similar to early Hispanic-American homestead. There are fourteen campsites, with a purified well, and showers available to campers.

Apache Springs

Beaubien

Beaubien is the hub of the southern country at Philmont. This camp is the largest staff camp at Philmont with a total of thirty campsites.

The programs that can be found here are Western Lore, Horse Rides, a Chuckwagon Supper, and an evening campfire. This camp was the former location of the southern commissary until Phillips Junction was built in the 1970’s. There is a purified well, and showers available to campers. Black Mountain Camp

Black Mountain camp has a great program, with an old log cabin and five staff members who play the roles of reconstruction settlers of the postbellum south. Located at the base of Black Mountain (whose south-face trail is one of the cruelest hikes on the Ranch), the camp has a program that includes black powder rifle shooting and blacksmithing. At 9,040 feet elevation, the camp sits in a high mountain meadow located at 36°26. 58' north latitude and 105°05. 50' west longitude. Based in Colorado.
