Worshipped among the earliest of the Sumerian gods, Kingu was considered chief of the monster brood of Gaea and commander of her armies sent to free her consort, Apsu, the god of fresh water, taken captive by Ea, the god of the ocean. She provided him with the Tablets of Destiny to defeat Ea, but Marduk obtained the tablets and used them to bind Kingu and his army to the underworld known as Allatum. In recent years, the spells exiling Kingu were weakened and he escaped to Earth, but he was confronted by the Atlantean hero Aquaman and defeated, again exiled back to Allatum.

In Sumerian myth, Mami was goddess of earth, and according to myth, she created the first mortals from mud she took from along the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. She was taken by Anu as his second wife to sire several of the Sumerian gods. Mami also took over several of the mother-goddess cults in Mesopotamia, including Gaea who was worshipped as Asherah by the Phoenicians and Ninhursag by the Sumerians. After the end of her worship on Earth, Mami departed Earth and became one of the Igigi or Babylonian Gods, but she has visited Earth several times.
