History: Gan Jiang was a blacksmith born in the Fifth Century BC. During
the reign of King Helu of Wu, who ruled China from 514 to 496 BC, he was
asked by King Helu to create two extraordinary swords, but he decided to
keep one and King Helu ordered his death. Hidden by his wife, the sword
was used by his son, Chi, to avenge his father's death. Helped by a
shaman, Chi faked his death to enter the king's quarters and then slay
him in combat. Gan Jiang was deified afterward and became a member of
the Xian alongside his wife and son. His mortal remains are protected by
a shrine, the Tomb of the Three Kings, in Henan, China. |
