figure in Celtic folklore as the spirit of death. According to legend,
he springs forth from the underworld in a spectral black hearse near the
Black Mountains in Northern France to carry off the shades (spirits) of
mortals to carry back to Annfwn, the Celtic land of the dead. In recent
years, he lent his hearse to Hades
to spirit several souls to the land of the dead. To mortals, he
frequently appears as a grinning skeleton in tatter robes or, most
recently, dressed as a funerary mortician in a top hat. |

History: Cerridwen is a member of an other-dimensional race of
beings known as the Tuatha de Danaan, who were worshipped as gods by the
ancient Celts and Gauls of Western Europe. Known as the goddess of corn,
she was taken as a bride of Tegid Voel, who was possibly an ancient
Welsh king. She had two children, a daughter, Creirwy, who was very
beautiful, and a son, Afaggdu, who was very homely. As she was preparing
a potion to give her son great wisdom to replace his beauty, Gwion Bach,
a mortal, burned his fingers on her cauldron used to mix the potion and
placed his fingers to his lips, unwittingly gaining the potion's
enchantment. Cerridwen and Gwion Bach quarreled turning themselves until
various animals until she swallowed him as a kernel of corn. Gwion was eventually
reborn as her son, Taliesin, a First Century Welsh hero. In later myths,
Cerridwen became a goddess of magic and witchcraft.

the divine physician to the gods, using a sacred well to heal them and
restore them to full health from the brink of death until the well was
destroyed battle by the Fomore. He is also credited with creating a
silver hand with the help of Creidne,
the brazier, to replace the lost hand of Nuadhu, but his son, Miach,
actually mystically restored Nuadhu's original hand. According to myths,
Diancecht slew Miach out of jealous pride. His daughter, Airmed,
gathered the medicinal herbs that grew on Miach's grave.

History: Mabon is the son of Matrona, the daughter of Avalloc, a
French king who ruled over Brittany in the First Century AD. His
father's identity is unknown, but speculation is it might have been
Oenghus, the Celtic god of youth. According to myth, Mabon was kidnapped
from his mother when he was three months old and rescued from the inside
of a giant salmon. One account places him under the protection of the
Druids and encountering Hercules.
As a god, Mabon's worship was merged by the invading Greeks to that of Apollo,
the Olympian god of prophecy. After his death, his mother, Matrona
became deified as the Lady of the Lake at the Marne River. Beloved by
Meldos, the god of lightning, Matrona gave birth to Mabon as the hero
Mabon ap Modron, a contemporary of King
Arthur.
