A 31-year-old man who allegedly had carnal knowledge of a female under the age of 13 was remanded to prison when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Carnally knowing a female below the age of 16. Haslyn Braithwaite of 4 Hadfield Street, Lodge was not required to plead to the charge of carnally knowing a female below the age of 16. It is alleged that on May 30 Braithwaite, a conductor/mechanic, had carnal knowledge of the said female. According to Braithwaite’s attorney, at the time of the alleged offence his client was at work and there are witnesses to support this fact. The lawyer pointed out that the offence was bailable and made an application for reasonable bail on Braithwaite’s behalf. The prosecution opposed this application, saying that there are other similar charges to be levelled against the accused. Further, the prosecution said that if Braithwaite was granted bail there is a possibility that he would interfere with the witness. Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle subsequently refused the accused bail and the matter was transferred to Court Six for June 9. |
