Girl critical after truck rolls over her
INJURED: Natasha Khan
A NEW Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) first year student was yesterday reported critical but stable in the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) following a Canje Bridge accident in Berbice on Wednesday afternoon.

Natasha Khan, 15, of Adelphi, East Canje, had left classes and, in company with a relative, was pushing her bicycle up the steep incline on the western side of the bridge when motor lorry GEE 2183 encountered mechanical difficulties and rolled backwards pinning her under one of its rear wheels.

Khan, who is pursuing an ordinary Diploma in Commerce, suffered injuries to her eyes and lacerations to the forehead.

Following the mishap, the driver stopped the vehicle that was transporting reef sand after it crashed into the bridge rails about 15 metres from where it struck the girl.

The 20-ton truck has since been released but the driver is still at Central Police Station in New Amsterdam, assisting traffic ranks with the investigations.
