Battle Zone
For three days, there was a war.
Purgatory is a vast land between hell and the living world. Such untouched land
yielded potential precious resources and souls. No wonder heaven and hell want
it so much. What followed was a three-day war filled with bloodshed and strange
phenomena in the Living World.
So how did this war come about? This will take a while, but for the sake of the
sanity and time, we will cut down to the main details.
Day One
A single shot rang out in the sky. Both sides point to each other of who fired
it. A child of peace was hit in the leg. Their cries were loud enough to draw
the attention of two angels.
“What happened?” one of them asked. The child could only wail and cry as he
cradled his bleeding left leg. Three demons ran over to investigate.
“What’s going on?” one of them asked.
“I got shot!” the child yelled. A trial took place to find the culprit. Many
were not allowed inside of the court house. There weren’t many witnesses to the
actual event. The victim wasn’t much help in describing what happened either.
“I was picking flowers in purgatory and then I got shot in the leg,” he said.
“And you didn’t see who shot you?” a demon lawyer asked.
“No, sir,” the child said. Already, the court became split in half with their
own theories. Initially, they were going to stay civil with this. However, one
snarky comment in the crowd launched the courtroom into a shouting match. The
judge couldn’t reign the trial in and ended up dismissing the case for the day.
The results re-opened tense hostilities that heaven and hell fought to keep
buried. On the same day, frogs rained from the sky all over the world.
Day Two
More shots disturbed the peace of Purgatory. Sacred animals weren’t as lucky as
the child of peace was yesterday. The cow, crow, and horse all fell into the
holy lake, staining the water bright red. The timing couldn’t have been worse
due to it being the start of the Holy Week. When the angels got word of this,
they were on the hunt. Their ideal suspect? Younger angels became attacking
demons at random. Pretty soon, the brawling made its way to the cities. The
lieutenants either didn’t know how or care to stop it. Little patches of blood
stained the streets.
In the Living World, spiders suddenly went crazy all over the world and there
wasn’t a single spot not covered in spider webs.
Day Three
By day three, things really got out of hand. Nobody was even sure who they were
fighting anymore. It turned into attack and run. Some of it turned into friendly
fire. The whole, Kami and Lucifer looked down.
“What is this crap all about?” Lucifer asked. Kami shrugged.
“I have no idea anymore,” he said.
“Shouldn’t we do something?”
“Like what?”
“Maybe stop them from fighting before Purgatory is destroyed.” Lucifer’s voice
came out flat when he said that. Kami shrugged as he shook his head again. The
fighting in Purgatory dragged on into the nightfall. It would take common sense
and a stern talking-to to calm everything down.
In the Living World, everything turned red.
Final Results
So much blood and damage was left to be cleaned up. Now, details of those three
days of fighting vary depending on who you ask. Both sides proudly declare
victory. To this day, nobody knew who fired the first shot. They probably don’t
really care anymore. The fate of Purgatory? That information would be classified
until the 1970’s.
