Blissful Little Reunion
He could smell a mix of vanilla and cinnamon. Naoko hadn’t expected the room to
feel so warm. Right away, he recognized the room. On their last romantic trip
together, Midori and Naoko rented a room in a Japanese inn. She wanted to be by
the window so she can watch the snow fall.
“Why?” the mouse boy had asked her.
“I don’t know,” she said. “There’s just something so romantic about it.”
“You’re strange sometimes,” he said.
“Maybe,” Midori said. This room looked just like their room right down to the
exact detail. There were even stains in the ceiling. The TV sat in the corner,
unplugged. Candles were lit all over the floor. The rose petals added to the
seduce charm.
It didn’t take him long to realize he wasn’t alone.
Midori sat on their futon all dressed up like a bride. Naoko blushed when their
eyes met. His beloved smiled.
“You finally made it,” she said.
“I’m back,” Naoko said as tears welled up in his eyes. He walked over to his
fiancée and pulled her into his arms.
“I missed you so much,” the mouse boy whispered into her ear.
“Yes,” Midori said. Naoko looked at her with a confused look on his face.
“Hm?” he asked. The kitty girl looked him deep in the eye.
“I will marry you,” she said. “You proposed to me before we died and I said
yes.” The mouse boy gave her a confused look.
“You remember all of that?” he asked.
“Of course,” she said. “We never get married before we died. I just had to see
you again, just to say yes all over again.”
“Midori-chan…” Naoko said. Midori leaned forward and kissed him on the lips.
Naoko happily kissed him back.
-Eighteen Months Later-
Naoko and Midori walked around in the beautiful snow hand-in-hand. Their
matching wedding bands caught the winter’s weak sunlight. The kitty girl turned
to her husband.
“Naoko-kun,” she said.
“Hm?” he asked. Midori smiled and shook her head.
“Oh, nothing,” she said. Naoko smiled back.
“Midori-chan,” he said.
“Yeah?” she asked. He smiled and shook his head.
“Oh, nothing,” he said. The happy coupled shared another kiss as they continued
their walk in the snow.
