First Love Dreams

Naoko stared out the window at the fluffy pink clouds floating by. His mind floated back to the day he met his Midori-chan.

-Winter 2004-

There was a party back then. Naoko had just moved into town. He wasn’t really familiar with many of the people in his city. In fact, he was just invited out to this party by chance. The mouse boy couldn’t interact with anybody. They all looked so happy talking about their plans for the weekends, love lives, what happened on their favorite shows, and daily life in general. Naoko could only look at his drink.

Why did I come here?

Maybe no one notice would notice if he slipped out and went home. Naoko looked at the people talking and dancing. It wouldn’t hurt. The mouse boy turned to walk away.

“Excuse me,” a small voice said. Naoko jumped and downed down. Such a cute, dark-skinned girl looked up at him. He could’ve sworn he was looking at a little angel with her cute face. Her black jeans and pink shirt hugged her breasts and curves. Her black ears and tail made his heart pounded against his chest. Naoko’s cheeks turned bright pink.

“Yes?” he asked. The kitty shifted in place.

“Uh… I am a bit lost,” she said. “Can you help me out?” Naoko blinked at first.

“Okay… Where are you trying to go?” he asked. The kitty shifted her feet before lowering her eyes.

“Actually… I’m trying to leave this party,” she said in a whisper. Despite her soft words, he caught what she said just fine.

“You too?” he whispered. The kitty girl slowly nodded. The new guy broke into a little smile.

“You know, I kind of wanted to leave too,” Naoko confessed. The kitty girl looked at him with big, surprised eyes.

“Will you help me?” she asked.

“Of course,” he said. “I know how to get us out of here. Follow me.” The kitty girl grabbed onto his arm. Naoko blushed as he led her through the crowd and out of the house. Once outside, the kitty girl let go of his arm.

“Thank you so much,” she said, bowing. “My friends kind of left me and I was starting to get bored.”

“No problem,” Naoko said, rubbing the back of his head. “I just moved into town and I don’t really know anybody here at this party myself. I felt kind of awkward and was didn’t talk to anyone. You kind of bailed me out back there.”

“I’m Midori,” the kitty girl said. “What’s your name?” His heart pounded in his chest.

“N-N-Naoko,” he said. Midori tilted her head.

“Why do you have a girl’s name?” she asked. Naoko tried to laugh it off as he rubbed the back of his head.

“It’s a long story,” he said. “Say, are you doing anything else tonight?”

“No…” Midori said.

“This is going to sound weird, but do you mind walking around the town with me?” he asked. “Just for a little bit? Until we reach the bus station?” The mouse boy prayed that this beautiful girl wouldn’t turn him down. They had just met and she seemed really nice. Midori twirled her short black hair in her fingers as she smiled.

“I don’t mind,” she said. Naoko felt like flying away to the starry sky above. He wanted to scream victory at the top of his lungs. Instead, he quickly bowed.

“Thank you so much,” he said.

“You’re welcome,” Midori replied. “You did help me out of the house after all.”

“Of course,” Naoko said, rubbing the back of his head.

-Present Day-

Naoko awake to the scent of soft bubble gum. The mouse boy turned and saw Billie sound asleep with her head on his shoulder. After about fifteen seconds of debating what to do, he shook his fellow passenger on the head.

“Hey,” he whispered. “Wake up. Wake up.” Naoko shook her a little bit harder before Billie lifted her head. She looked at him through half-asleep eyes and yawned.

“I apologize for that,” she said in a low voice.

“It’s okay,” Naoko said, blushing.

“I was dreaming about when I met my husband,” she said. The mouse boy looked at her with big eyes.

“I was actually just dreaming about how I met my girlfriend,” he said.

“It’s so weird,” Billie said. The passengers looked up when they heard a woman clear her throat. A third flight attendant stood smiling with her tray.

“We’re almost to our destination,” she said. “Fond memories of love always float through this part of the flight. We will be landing shortly. For now, dinner is ready.”
